Course Description

 

In the Introduction to Progress Application Server for OpenEdge for Developers course, you learn how to develop, deploy, manage, debug, and secure ABL applications using Progress Application Server (PAS) for OpenEdge. You learn how to create and configure PAS for OpenEdge instances, deploy business logic, access server-side applications using ABL clients, invoke remote procedures, and debug the applications running on PAS for OpenEdge. You also learn how to expose ABL applications as RESTful services, implement authentication, and configure PAS for OpenEdge event procedures to support application lifecycle management.

After taking this course, you should be able to:  

  • Create, configure, start, stop, and delete a PAS for OpenEdge instance.

  • Configure deployment settings, including PROPATH, database connections, transports, agents, sessions, and environment variables.

  • Deploy business logic to a PAS for OpenEdge instance.

  • Access the applications hosted on PAS for OpenEdge by using ABL clients.

  • Invoke remote procedures by using persistent, single-run, singleton, synchronous, and asynchronous execution models.

  • Create a RESTful service using a PAS for OpenEdge instance.

  • Debug the ABL applications deployed on PAS for OpenEdge by using Progress Developer Studio.

  • Create and deploy RESTful services using WEB transport and web handlers.

  • Secure applications by using client login models, authentication managers, and client-principal tokens.

  • Configure and use PAS for OpenEdge event procedures.

Prerequisites

 Before you begin this course, you should have knowledge of:

  • Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge

  • Progress OpenEdge databases

  • Progress OpenEdge ABL programming

  • Object-oriented ABL programming
