With the acquisition of Kinvey, Progress has created the only full-stack open platform for building and deploying modern business applications.

We are excited to share the news that we have acquired Kinvey, a company that has been leading the market for Backend as a Service (BaaS) since it began—in fact they coined the term. With today’s news, we are combining the best BaaS with Progress’ leading capabilities in frontend development, data connectivity and predictive analytics, to provide the pre-eminent platform for building and deploying modern, cognitive business applications.

Significant Benefits for Our Customers

In our public announcement, we talked about the many benefits of Kinvey—its security, openness, performance, compliance and more—all of the things that made it a Leader in the latest Forrester Wave for Mobile Development Platforms. In fact, today Kinvey runs over 31,000 applications on its cloud, with over 100 million end users and serves over 10 billion API calls per month.

Kinvey is a perfect fit to enable Progress to deliver on our vision for modern application development, and there are many immediate customer and partner benefits from this acquisition:

  • Kinvey and Progress together provide an unparalleled developer experience for building and deploying modern enterprise applications for mobile, web and IoT.
  • Kinvey’s Backend platform provides the open, serverless foundation for Progress’s cognitive-first application platform strategy.
  • Kinvey provides built-in HIPAA compliance for healthcare apps and a focus more generally on compliance that provides benefit across industries.
  • Kinvey works well with other key components of Progress’ portfolio:
    • Our frontend development tools including, NativeScript for native mobile development, and Kendo UI the leading tool for easily building responsive web apps
    • Progress’ leading data connectivity capabilities in DataDirect for secure and performant access to data from any enterprise or cloud source
    • Progress DataRPM for machine learning and predictive analytics capabilities that can be embedded easily in applications

Kinvey’s leading security, performance, reliability and scalability is a natural complement to Progress’ enterprise approach to mission-critical application development—continuing our heritage of providing the solutions that “just work.”

We couldn’t be more excited about bringing Kinvey into the Progress family and about our ability to help our customers and partners drive the future of application development and deployment with the absolute best capabilities on the market.
