When a company is successful and growing but its data systems don’t scale well, it can be a problem. Nationwide Building Society came to understand this all too well, and embarked on a major project to modernize their systems. Well into the process, however, they encountered complex technical issues that were in danger of slowing them down drastically.
Nationwide is one of the UK’s largest providers of savings and home mortgages, with around 17,000 total employees and hundreds of developers working regularly with data analytics. From management to regulators to security to marketing, the data was crucial to the day-to-day operations of the company.
The system was clearly, as Paul Matthews, Head of Transformation at Nationwide Building Society put it, “a business-critical system to the organization.” It had to be available.
Enter Progress DataDirect. DataDirect actively supports a wide variety of the latest and fastest drivers in the industry, including the exact one Nationwide was seeking help with. Within days, trial drivers were sent out and a hotfix was provided. After some further testing, the solution went live, and Nationwide has been enjoying a reliable solution that cuts the time it takes to run an average job down by 25%. New features and new functionalities were added at the same time. “Overall we are getting our month-end processes done in five days instead of ten,” Matthews observed, adding that the reliability and scalability of Progress DataDirect is critical to future growth plans as well.
