Add and manage persona scoring rules

Overview

You can set the rules that define when a visitor starts or stops being associated with a persona.

NOTE: The procedure for adding new rule differs when you create a new persona and when you edit an existing Persona.

Add new rule

To add a new rule for a persona, perform the following:

  1. Depending on whether you are creating a new or editing an existing persona, perform one of the following:

    • If you are creating a new persona, perform the following:
      1. Under Rules for entering persona click Add a rule.
        The Rule condition window appears.
      2. Create a condition and confirm your choice.
For more information, see Create and manage personas.
    • If you are editing an existing persona, perform the following:
      1. In Sitefinity Insight, navigate to Analytics » Personas.
      2. Open the Persona whose rules you want to modify.
      3. Click the Manage rules button.
The Rules for entering persona screen appears.
  2. To add a new rule, click Add(Add).
    The Rule condition dialog appears.

  3. Choose how the rules will apply:

    • Any rule
The visitor is classified as belonging to the specified Persona when they hit at least one of the rules.
    • All rules
The visitor is classified as belonging to the specified Persona only when they hit all the rules.
    • Points
You use points-based rules to model complex and fine-grained rules for entering and exiting a persona. For more information, see Persona scoring rules.
  4. Choose the condition for entering or leaving a persona.
This can be a visitor behavior or a contact property.
For more information, see Persona scoring rules format.

  5. If you have selected Points, define how many points the visitor scores for this interaction. You can add, subtract, or reset the points to 0.

NOTE: You can choose whether points are scored once or every time when the visitor completes the interaction. For more information, see Persona scoring rules.

  6. Optionally, under Time limitations » Remove visitors with no activity in..., choose a time limitation for automatically excluding visitors from the Persona.
If visitors do not perform an action for a time period longer than the one you specify, they are automatically removed from the Persona.
You can see when a visitor is removed from a Persona in their visitor journey map.
For more information, see Contact profiles » Journey.
If visitors perform an action after they were removed from a Persona, Sitefinity Insight starts evaluating their actions as if they were new visitors and does not automatically include them in the previous Persona.

Edit and remove rules

Each persona needs to have at least one rule. Therefore, you cannot delete the last rule.

To edit or delete a rule, perform the following:

  1. Navigate to Analytics » Personas.
  2. Open the Persona you want to edit
  3. Click Manage rules.
  4. To edit a rule’s condition, click its Edit(Edit) icon.
  5. If using Points mode, you can directly edit the Action, the number of points awarded, and the frequency within the table of all rules.
  6. To delete a rule, click its Remove button(Remove) button.
  7. Click Save.
