Teknion keeps ahead of the pack in today's cloud-dominated business environment by leveraging OpenEdge 12.0 and Progress Application Server (PAS).

In this Success Story Spotlight, we look at Teknion, a global leader in furniture design for the modern office environment. As an internationally operated company, Teknion needed a solution that would seamlessly execute its cloud-centric strategies. With OpenEdge 12.0, Teknion was able to make critical changes while still maintaining its high standards and output without any disruption of services. To better respond to shifting market demands, Teknion decided to move to a cloud-centric strategy without disturbing employees and partners who used their Order-to-Cash, a powerful suite of custom-built applications. Teknion determined that upgrading from OpenEdge 10.2B to OpenEdge 12.0 was the best way to achieve its goal.

Thanks to the successful migration, Teknion can now host the Order-to-Cash suite on a private cloud using OpenEdge 12.0 and PAS for OpenEdge. This scalable, cloud-ready application server simplifies application maintenance and increases connectivity with modern on-premises and cloud-based systems via the ability to open REST connections.

Not only did PAS for OpenEdge make it easier to link various on-prem and cloud-based technologies to better scalability and management, but new ABL language features in OpenEdge 12.0 also allowed Teknion to rewrite and modernize the application code. All of this was accomplished with minimum disruption to Order-to-Cash customers when using Teknion application suite—a significant achievement considering how important these apps are to Teknion customers, partners, and furniture dealers.

"People tell me, 'I don't know what you did, but the application moves fast,'" said David Gowe, director of business applications at Teknion. "This is great because it shows me that the app not only does what it needs to do, people are actually eager to use it."
