OpenEdge Developers Kit Brings New Development Flexibility

Building on the success of the OpenEdge Developers Kit: Classroom Edition that launched last fall, we now offer four new editions for all types of development teams.

When we debuted the OpenEdge Developers Kit: Classroom Edition back in October 2015, we were very excited to share a powerful suite of Progress development tools with aspiring developers. While we’re still quite eager to see what aspiring developers can do with this offering, we know there are a great many OpenEdge partners and customers out there who could also benefit from a complete set of Progress development, deployment and testing products and tools.

With that in mind, we’re pleased to announce the expansion of the Progress OpenEdge Developers Kit (OEDK) 11.6 to four new groups of users—basic, corporate, premier and soon an innovator edition as well. These new tiers are targeted at specific company needs and are designed to make it easy to get the exact functionality and support you’re looking for. Not only will you gain easy access to the newest OpenEdge technologies, but each edition also provides application development toolkits for earlier, supported versions.

By choosing the affordable subscription model that best fits your development and licensing needs, you’ll be able to reduce the development costs of your business. The new editions are as follows:

  • Classroom (FREE)—Free for all developers! It is designed for aspiring developers eager to make an impact and prepare for the corporate application market, and will introduce them to the easy-to-use, rapid and robust OpenEdge development platform.
  • Basic ($26/mo)—Geared for independent developers who require support during freelance work or with specific projects. This low-cost edition entitles you to access all supported versions of Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge (which you’ll love), a small testing environment, online support ticketing and access to KnowledgeBase and education tools.
  • Corporate ($85/mo)—The needs of large IT departments and enterprise customers will be met under this tier. In addition to the development environment, it provides multi-user testing environments, standard Tech Support and education.
  • Premier ($159/mo)—Everything you need as an Application Partner is here, letting you build powerful business applications and support all the customers running them. Service Delivery Partners that provide consulting services to Progress partners and enterprise customers will love this as well. It’s designed for organizations with multiple development teams working on many projects across different environments and versions of OpenEdge.
  • Innovator Edition (COMING SOON! $298/mo)—We’ve created this edition for R&D specialists within development organizations who want to modernize their business applications with new technology, like SaaS, cloud or mobile. This tier is for you if, in addition to the features of the Premier Edition, you also require other development toolsets. It includes the Telerik Platform for OpenEdge and Rollbase Private Cloud, giving you the best in mobile application and cloud technologies.

We hope this breakdown of features is helpful, but if you need help choosing, you can take a look at all the features and functionalities in this side-by-side comparison. To learn more, you can also check out our FAQ. Of course, you can always contact us at any time with questions as well.

This is an awesome new offering to help position OpenEdge customers and partners for success at a price that’s right for their needs. We’re excited for where it will take you.
