Progress OpenEdge Command Center (OECC) 2.0 is the latest release designed to enhance the support and management of OpenEdge environments. This release focuses primarily on foundational security enhancements, allowing the remote OpenEdge Command Center Agent’s System Administrators to control the OpenEdge resource management, including Progress Application Server (PAS) for OpenEdge and database management.

Key Features in OECC 2.0

Maintaining robust security and efficient management of software environments is paramount in today’s business environments. OpenEdge Command Center 2.0 addresses these needs by introducing significant enhancements that streamline the management of OpenEdge resources.

Enhanced Foundational Security

Security is a critical concern for any organization, and OpenEdge Command Center 2.0 focuses on enhancing the foundational security of the Command Center and its agents. Key security enhancements include:

Authorization Permission Before Managing Remote System OpenEdge Resources: Users can leverage OpenEdge Command Center as a secure and robust OpenEdge management tool by defining security policies tailored to their deployment needs. The remote OECC Agent authorization policies are now managed by an Authorization Server. The authorization will enable access to all or none of the OpenEdge resources (PAS for OpenEdge/Database) per OECC Agent determined by the System Administrator persona.

TLS Mutual Authentication Support for Agent and Server: The TLS mutual authentication allows the OpenEdge Command Center Server and Agent to verify each other’s identities. This prevents man-in-the-middle attacks and unauthorized access concerns. The OECC server is enabled with secure by default, now allowing only HTTPS to access its Web interface.

PAS for OpenEdge and Database Management Improvements

OpenEdge Command Center 2.0 introduces several improvements to the management of PAS for OpenEdge and databases, aimed at simplifying and enhancing administrative tasks:

Support for OpenEdge Application Archive (OEAR) Deployment: This touch-friendly, modern UI enables application administrators to deploy ABL applications and web application resources easily from the OECC web console.

Usability Enhancements for OpenTelemetry Performance Metrics: OpenTelemetry performance metrics can now follow standard naming conventions per industry standards and can report uptime and availability of PAS for OpenEdge and database servers. This integration simplifies the correlation and interpretation of PAS for OpenEdge and Database server performance metrics, enhancing the design of insights in APM tool dashboards.

Support for PAS for OpenEdge ABL Application Configuration Management: This user-friendly solution simplifies Advanced Business Language (ABL) application configurations, such as MSAgent startup configurations, MSAgent session procedures settings, Log settings and ABL application’s PROPATH in a multi-line editor for each PAS for OpenEdge instance, enabling effortless updates with minimal clicks.

Ability to View DB Schema, Users and Roles Information for a Selected Database: This modern web-console support allows users to use OECC for viewing the database schema, users and roles information for a selected OpenEdge database.

Quick and Easy Installer Experience

The OpenEdge Command Center 2.0 installation process has been significantly streamlined to support a quick and hassle-free setup:

Support Easy and Quick Install User Experience: Customers can install the OECC server quickly with an embedded MongoDB database installation scripts and configuration. This eliminates the need for MongoDB separate installation when connected to the internet. The install has also been streamlined leaving you with the best installation experience. Upgrades from OECC 1.3 to 2.0 aren’t supported due to breaking changes, but upgrades within 2.X series are designed to be smooth with built-in data migration.

Progress OpenEdge Command Center 2.0 represents a significant advancement in the OpenEdge management and security of OpenEdge environments. With its enhanced security features, improved management capabilities and streamlined installation process, OpenEdge Command Center 2.0 is designed to meet the evolving needs of System Administrators and support the optimal performance of OpenEdge resources. By adopting OpenEdge Command Center 2.0, organizations can achieve greater security, efficiency and reliability in their OpenEdge operations.
