Manage personal data

Overview

With Sitefinity Insight, you can delete or export personal data associated to a particular visitor, regardless of whether they are an anonymous visitor or a registered contact. In connection with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), visitors have the right to be forgotten and the right to access to data. GDPR applies to all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). Site visitors, or the so-called data subjects, have the option to request all their data send to them or deleted altogether. For more information, see Data protection under GDPR.

PREREQUISITES: To be able to export or delete personal data, your account must have permission to work with personally identifiable information.
For more information, see Manage Personally identifiable information.

To delete or export personal data, you must have the value of the Sitefinity Insight Tracking ID cookie or the contact's email.

Visitors can request their personal data to be:

  • Exported:
You can export all data, associated to the contact via their Tracking ID or email address, as a ZIP file.
  • Deleted:
You can delete all data, associated with the contact via their Tracking ID or email address, from Sitefinity Insight data center.

Tracking ID

Sitefinity Insight Tracking ID is the unique identifier of visitors. It applies to both anonymous visitors and registered contacts. The Tracking ID is the value of the Sitefinity Insight sf-data-intell-subject cookie, stored in the cookie list of the browser that visitors use. The cookie’s unique value ensures the data you manage is associated exactly with that specific visitor or contact that browsed through the site and interacted with it. Tracked data is related to both client-side and server-side events that are sent when contacts interact with the site, for example - when they visit a particular page or submit a form.
For more information, see Track and collect data from Sitefinity CMS.

Get the Tracking ID

Site owners need to acquire the Tracking ID from visitors requesting their data exported or deleted by providing them with knowledge or means how to do so.
Visitors need to present their Tracking ID with their request, so that Sitefinity Insight administrators can identify the proper visitor in the system and proceed with operating with their personal data.

NOTE: If the visitors have registered on the respective site, they can provide their email address in their request.
