  • Find and list Sitefinity content items.
  • Work with multiple content items, including items of different content types.
  • Perform Create, Read, Update, and Delete (CRUD) operations on Sitefinity content.
  • Generate AI-powered suggestions for content items and pages.
  • Invoke an available AI agent for a specific task.
For example, you can invoke a Find & Replace custom agent.
  • Search the Sitefinity product documentation and review the retrieved sources.
For example, you can ask questions about Sitefinity CMS capabilities.
  • Return to previous conversations and continue working with the context of a previous conversation.

Access DX Assistant

PREREQUISITES: Before you start using the DX Assistant, ensure that:

  • You are able to log in to Sitefinity CMS backend. Backend role is required.
  • The custom AI agents you want to use to perform tasks are enabled and configured accordingly. For more information, see Custom AI agents.

To start using DX Assistant:

  1. Log in to your Sitefinity CMS backend.
  2. In the main navigation, click ASK AI.

If you start a conversation for the first time, the initial conversation screen opens.

Start a new conversation

Your conversation history is stored and available via the Conversations sidebar.
To start a new conversation:

  1. Open DX Assistant by clicking ASK AI.
By default, DX Assistant opens the most recent active conversation.
  2. If an existing conversation is open, in the Conversations sidebar, click New conversation.
  3. In the chat screen, enter your question or specific request.
  4. Submit the prompt.

DX Assistant then processes your request and displays its response in the conversation. It uses the messages in the current conversation as context for follow-up prompts.

Invoke a specific AI agent

DX Assistant uses the AI agents enabled in your Sitefinity CMS backend to generate content suggestions and perform a wide range of content-related operations supported by its configured MCP tools. The available agents and their behavior depend on their configuration.

Normally, you can ask DX Assistant to work with Sitefinity content without mentioning any particular agent. Based on how the LLM interprets the request/prompt, it invokes an appropriate Sitefinity AI agent as per the configured agent instructions and MCP tools. With each request, the LLM evaluates the available MCP tools (they are included as context) and decides if any should be called.

NOTE: You can invoke only enabled AI agents that are also configured as available in the chat assistant.

You explicitly invoke an agent only when you need that particular agent.
For example, when the agent has specialized instructions for the selected content, or when you want to prevent another agent from handling your request.
When you need to invoke a particular agent, mention it in your prompt @AGENT-NAME - this opens the AI agents dropdown where you select this agent from the list of available AI agents.

EXAMPLE: @ProductNews generate suggestions for the selected news items.

Usage quota

DX Assistant usage quota is directly based on your Sitefinity AI tokens quota. Sitefinity AI tokens are consumed for all AI-related interactions performed in your Sitefinity CMS backend when using one or more Sitefinity AI capabilities. The AI tokens consumption depends on the complexity of the AI-assisted operation/workflow executed through the chat interface.

When your user account reaches certain thresholds in your AI tokens quota (for example, 90% and 100%), a respective email notification will be sent to remind you of these thresholds.

For more information and AI tokens consumption examples, see Sitefinity AI tokens.

Best practices for prompts

You can use the following recommendations:

  • Identify the content type when requesting content operations.
  • Include the item/page title or another unique property.
  • Specify explicitly whether you want to find, create, update, or delete selected content.
It is important to always review the proposed changes before approving a high-impact operation.
  • In a multisite setup, specify the relevant site or ask what the current site is - this may affect the result.
  • Explicitly invoke an agent only when you need that particular agent.
For example, when the agent has specialized instructions for the selected content, or when you want to prevent another agent from handling the request.
