Reduce Business Process Cycle (BPC) Time with an ESB

A few months ago Progress Software hosted an online event called, Drive Operational Excellence with SOA. The webinar featured a guest speaker, and customer, from Pacific Blue Cross who discussed the challenges of moving from a legacy batch and manual processing architecture to a leave-and-layer approach with an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). Deploying the messaging-based ESB in their SOA infrastructure gave Pacific Blue Cross the ability to wrap new services around existing services. The benefits that Pacific Blue Cross and other ESB customers gain by this approach include: Reduced business process cycle time; improved consistency and visibility of in-process data; reduced cost of errors from manual intervention; cut costs of processing peak transaction loads; and improved flexibility to handle future business change.

The registrants were also given access to a live demonstration on how to use an ESB to achieve service-oriented architecture (SOA) patterns that eliminate batch transfer latency from business processes. Special attention in the demonstration is directed at the challenges of SOA migration and how to avoid disrupting existing systems and their users.

The webinar also gave an overview of Progress Sonic ESB, a messaging-based enterprise service bus that simplifies the integration and flexible re-use of business applications within a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Sonic ESB eliminates the rigidity and fragility of point-to-point integration with a robust, event-driven architecture that can evolve, scale and extend throughout the enterprise.
