Searching the Community
Welcome to a quick tour of the Progress Community! Check out our video on Accessing the Community if you need any assistance logging in. As always, we recommend using the Chrome browser and bookmarking community.progress.com directly, to enable you to get here the fastest.
Today, we’re going to be looking at the search functionality within the Community. Let’s start with the search bar <point>. To let us see the search area without any key terms, I’ll just press the enter key.
The Community will pull your results from several sources, listed here across the top tabs. If you’d like to drill down into the results from only one specific area, please just go ahead and click on the data source.
As you can see, you can sort by relevance and date here. And on the left hand side, you’ll see a few different options for filters. The Product Group lets you narrow down your results. If you don’t see your product right away, there are two things you can do:
- Click the little “down” arrow to see more options. Please note that these are sorted by volume, and not alphabetically.
- You can also press the search button and start to type in what you’re looking for. <type in the letter “s” and see options>
If you scroll down on the page, you can also filter by the topic area <show> and data source. As with the product area, each will allow you to drop down or search to explore or narrow your options.
When looking at your search results, you’ll see little icons next to your results. Things like:
- Knowledgebase articles
- Questions and Comments
- HTML files
- Videos and more
When looking at a search result, if you’d like to see more without leaving the search page, try the “Quick View” button. This allows you to see the content without having to leave your place on the search screen.
To get back to the search screen, just click the “X” button
That’s it for now! Please feel free to check out our other videos to help you get set up for success with Progress! Thank you!
