When recently asked, Cameron Wright, Customer Solutions Architect at Progress answers what are the largest opportunities for AI use within Progress OpenEdge. Listen for his answer. 

What do you think is the biggest opportunity for AI use within Progress OpenEdge?

So when I have a new developer or I have a seasoned developer who's looking to move into an AI world, we have the ability to generate code, to document code, to build test cases, to build unit tests—all the things that we don't have time to do. But we're building those tools that allow you to get there in an agentic way.

Man, what are my future thoughts? I want to say that AI is going to take over the world, but I don't think that's going to be the case.

I believe that AI is going to become ingrained. We're going to become reliant on it, but it's going to be a tool. It's going to be just like our phones. We're going to end up relying on it, and it's really going to help with productivity.

It helps with the mundane jobs that are tough, like renaming variables and things like that—stuff that most developers don't want to do. This will allow us to do it.

I, myself, personally, I've been using AI now since March. You couldn't pay me enough to get rid of it. It has just become so ingrained in my life.

And I was actually telling John this. I said, “John, if tomorrow you said we can no longer use AI, or he was no longer going to pay for AI, I would personally pay for it out of my pocket.”

It has become that important in my day that I'm just not sure how I would go about operating without it.

So I think that's where the future's going: we're going to find that complementary need. It's a toolkit. It's a great toolkit, right?

And I think that it's going to help developers be more productive and tackle the jobs that need to be done. I'm really excited for the future.
