CHHS Breaks Down Data Silos to Better Serve Residents

Jun 12, 2018

Like many governmental agencies, California Health and Human Services (CHHS) is data rich and information poor. But, the Agency and its departments are taking steps to change this. Open data, data sharing, and innovation initiatives have been key to improving services to Californians as well as modernizing information systems. This is not an easy task, as Government, out of necessity, divides itself into departments and programs that serve as silos that can limit the ability to improve outcomes.

This session will explore how CHHS is creating a “data movement” across the Agency and share two department’s innovative MarkLogic implementations: Department of Managed HealthCare (DMHC) implementation of the Office of Financial Review Dashboard and Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) Web Transformation Project.

  • Mike Wilkening, Undersecretary of the California Health and Human Services (CHHS) Agency
  • Marta Green, Chief Deputy Director, Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC)
  • Scott Christman, CIO, Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, (OSHPD)
