Corporate Tax Intern

Candidates must be local to our MA headquarters as a result.

Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS) is a global software company that simplifies the development, deployment and management of business applications on-premise or on any Cloud, on any platform and on any device with minimal IT complexity and low total cost of ownership.

The Tax intern will be part of a five-person tax department and will gain exposure to state, local, and federal taxation. The candidate should be available from placement date through the end of May for approximately 15 hours per week with a mix of time spent working in the office and also remotely. A successful intern may be offered a summer extension with more hours (if desired).

 WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THIS ROLE:  

  • Prepare and file sales & use, property taxes, annual reports and business licenses as well as other non-income based returns
  • Respond to notices from state tax authorities
  • Assist tax department with audits by state and federal tax authorities
  • Perform technical tax research to support tax positions
  • Assist with incorporation/dissolution of legal entities
  • Assist with preparation of supporting workpapers for R&D Tax Credit and other special projects
  • Assist with the preparation of Federal and state tax returns
  • Collect state apportionment data and prepare apportionment schedules.  Research state apportionment issues and ensure that various state rules are applied
  • Analyze the impact of federal conformity rules on the state income tax returns
  • Prepare and file FinCen Form 114 (FBAR) filings


 WHAT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL NEED TO HAVE:  

  • Must be in the process of earning a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Concentration in Taxation or a Master’s student is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications including Excel & Word
  • Strong analytical, verbal/written communication and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and own processes
