What you will learn

In this learning path, new developers are introduced to Progress OpenEdge and the Progress Advanced Business Language (ABL), Progress Software’s proprietary language designed for developing business applications. It is a high-level language that supports procedural, dynamic, and object-oriented programming. You will cover core concepts and tools, including:

  • Progress OpenEdge Developer Studio
  • Progress Application Server for OpenEdge
  • Progress OpenEdge database
  • Progress OpenEdge Application Architecture

You Will Learn:

  • How to develop an OpenEdge application using Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge.
  • How to incrementally develop an application that utilizes OERA design principles and how to write code using recognized best practices.
  • How to identify when and where to use datasets. Practice incorporating datasets into applications during hands-on exercises using Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge.
  • How to define, populate, and perform data operations using datasets and then share data with other applications.
  • How to use the object-oriented capabilities of Progress OpenEdge ABL. You are introduced to key features of Progress’ object-oriented ABL, how to develop and test classes, and how to further develop an application by applying object-oriented programming features such as inheritance, interface classes, singletons, dynamic instances, and events.
    • You can practice the concepts taught in each course with hands-on exercises, complete with step-by-step guidance and solutions. Assess your knowledge with in-course Check Your Understanding questions. You can also demonstrate your skills with assessment exams for key courses.

Once you have mastered the competencies required of a Basic OpenEdge Developer, you can earn your Basic OpenEdge 12 Developer certification by passing the Basic OpenEdge Developer certification exam.

      About the Certification:

      • The exam consists of 225 multiple-choice questions.
      • The exam is graded automatically with 75% being the passing grade.
      • Once you start the exam, you will have 4 hours to complete it.

      • If you do not pass the exam, you can retake the exam again after a two-week waiting period.
      • You can attempt the exam five times in a 12-month period.

The certification is valid for two years, after which a re-certification is required. An official certificate and a “Basic OpenEdge Developer” logo acknowledging your expertise will be automatically made available for you upon successfully passing the certification.
