Replacing a “Wild, Wild West” File Transfer Environment with Centralized Control
A nationwide mortgage lender with 200+ branches across 49 states depends on secure, reliable movement of sensitive servicing data between internal teams, business processes, banks and third-party vendors. In that environment, visibility is essential. Servicing data must be available for internal and external auditors, compliance teams and business stakeholders. Before MOVEit Automation, the mortgage lender lacked a centralized way to track and log data transactions moving into or out of the servicing environment. Teams relied on disconnected approaches, including desktop-based tools such as FileZilla, making it difficult to know which departments were moving files, where transfers were occurring or whether transfers had completed successfully.
The lack of consistency created challenges far beyond day-to-day operations. When auditors or business teams needed answers, employees often had to manually trace transactions across multiple systems. The environment had become increasingly difficult to manage as file transfer volumes grew alongside loan activity. As the lender's Servicing System Manager recalled, "There was no previous approach. It was the wild, wild west before MOVEit was implemented.”
The organization needed more than a file transfer tool. It needed a centralized platform that could standardize processes, automate repetitive tasks, strengthen governance and provide a reliable system of record for auditing, reporting and operational oversight.
It just immediately solved easily 90% of the issues we were facing.

Building a Centralized Automation Platform
The mortgage lender implemented Progress MOVEit Automation as its centralized managed file transfer platform, creating a single point of control for file movement across vendor, bank, internal storage and departmental workflows. Today, the lender uses MOVEit with Azure Blob Storage, SFTP, UNC paths and SharePoint, with 50+ internal and external connections supporting file movement across the servicing ecosystem.
MOVEit Automation also became the foundation for broader operational automation, powering external third-party vendor transfers, internal department workflows and process-to-process exchanges. For more advanced requirements, the organization extended MOVEit software using VBScript libraries and PowerShell scripting to support complex business workflows. These include loading files into SQL Server databases, exporting data into CSV and Excel formats and orchestrating cross-system processes.
Rather than forcing teams to choose between standardization and flexibility, MOVEit Automation enabled both. The organization gained centralized governance, auditing and visibility while continuing to support the specialized workflows required across servicing, reporting and vendor operations. For the Servicing System Manager that balance is what makes the platform especially valuable. As he explained, “It makes it very, very powerful to work with.”
The result was a scalable platform that supports both the lender's current operations and future growth.
Enterprise-Scale Automation Platform for Mortgage Loan Operations
Today, MOVEit Automation supports a complex production environment that includes approximately 80 automated workflows, 50+ connections across internal systems, banks and cloud storage services and between 7,000 and 14,000 file transfers during reporting periods. The platform enables the lender to manage growing transfer volumes while maintaining the visibility and control required in a highly regulated industry.
For the servicing team, one of the most significant benefits has been the creation of a trusted system of record for file activity. Instead of manually tracing transactions across multiple systems, teams can quickly verify whether files were successfully received, transferred or processed. This reduces the time spent preparing for audits while providing a trusted source of information during investigations. The impact has been so significant that the lender views auditing and tracking as the platform's most valuable capability. As the Servicing System Manager explained, “The auditing and tracking—that’s number one. That’s the bread and butter of your product. And for what we pay, it does so much compared to other products that don’t even come close.”
The centralized visibility has also improved vendor troubleshooting and incident response. Teams can more quickly determine whether an issue originated internally or with an external partner, reducing the time spent investigating file transfer problems.
Automation has further strengthened operational reliability. Overnight monitoring and alerting allow teams to identify and address issues before business hours, while the platform’s stability has minimized ongoing maintenance requirements.
Combined with its enterprise capabilities and competitive cost, MOVEit software delivers long-term value that continues to grow as the organization expands automation across additional departments.
