With more than one million customers and over 10,000 merchant partners, GreenSky needed a better way to manage and share sensitive financial documents across teams. The goal was better oversight, improved visibility and less reliance on manual processes.
GreenSky is a fintech company that provides point-of-sale financing for the home improvement business. With more than 6 million consumers and over 10,000 merchant partners, the platform processes billions of dollars in transactions each year. Supporting that scale requires teams to regularly exchange documents across departments and with
external partners.
For GreenSky, keeping track of how this information is shared and who it’s shared with is an important part of their daily operations.
Managing Documents Across a Growing Network
As teams and partners shared more documents, GreenSky needed a more reliable way to manage and share information across the business. Over time, legacy folder structures and sharing practices made it harder to track how files were accessed and how permissions were handled.
For a company that regularly exchanges information with several external partners, the structure made it difficult to maintain clear oversight of document activity.
Consistency in how files were shared and accessed became increasingly important as teams worked across departments and external partners.
The customization and alerting we get are fantastic. Those kinds of controls are table stakes for a platform, and ShareFile delivers.

To address these challenges, GreenSky standardized secure document sharing using Progress® ShareFile® software.
Today, multiple teams across the company use ShareFile features to exchange information with other parties. Teams frequently rely on the platform when sharing documents with external parties. In other cases, teams onboarding new merchants use it to securely collect documentation. By centralizing these exchanges in the ShareFile platform, GreenSky created a more consistent and controlled way to handle external file sharing.
Key capabilities included:
Improved visibility into document activity, allowing teams to track file access and monitor information
Structured document workflows, minimizing the need for manual processes
These capabilities simplified how documents move across teams while improving visibility and oversight.
As awareness of the platform grew internally, adoption expanded as well. Over time, the number of ShareFile licenses increased, reflecting broader use across teams that needed a secure way to exchange information.
The impact included:
We really secured our environment better… that alone saved us tons of money and kept us out of the news – and no news is good news.
