These pre-recorded sessions provide an overview of the 11.5 release of Progress OpenEdge. The OpenEdge 11.5 release includes new features and enhancements in many areas. Below are some highlights:

  • The introduction of the Pacific Application Server which: makes it easy use any type of connection,  whether it is via REST, SOAP, AIA, or any other type; and it provides performance gains relative to the OpenEdge AppServer.
  • This release increases the scalability and management of ABL applications in these areas reducing total cost of ownership:
    • ABL applications operate with fewer system resources.
    • Improve cross-product integration and maintainability for Pacific: all application development products can utilize the new Pacific Application Server.
  • The introduction of the Advanced Enterprise RDBMS product
    • This product bundles the Enterprise RDBMS and  DB add-ons for Replication Plus,  OpenEdge Management,  Transparent Data Encryption,  Multi-tenancy, and Table Partitioning/
  • OpenEdge products are now fully supported on both 32-bit and 4-bit machines.  One exception is the Pacific Application Server, which can only be installed on 64-bit machines, but which can be accessed using a 32-bit install of OpenEdge.
  • There are “Run the Business” updates, such as the most recent release of Infragistics in Developer Studio,  new platform certifications, a new SNMP adapter in OpenEdge Management, as well as other areas.
  • The rounding out of support for Table Partitioning with additional partitioning features added to the OpenEdge RDBMS, OpenEdge SQL, OpenEdge Explorer, and Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge.
  • The continued evolution of OpenEdge Mobile with enhancements:  improved support for local storage, JSDO session object asynchronous session login,  a number of usability and feature enhancements in the Mobile App Builder, and a simple migration to update existing mobile applications to use all of the new features.

There are too many other areas to include in this introduction, but in summary there are also enhancements for OpenEdge Business Process Management, Data Severs, ABL, OpenEdge RDBMS, and others that are not mentioned here.

As is always the case, this release includes changes in the area of maintenance and a number of bug fixes. Please see the posted materials, both the recorded sessions and annotated PowerPoints, to learn more about the OpenEdge 11.5 release.
