Content recommendations widget

Overview

The Content recommender uses Sitefinity Insight’s A.I. algorithms to combine the content managed in Sitefinity CMS with the behavior patterns of your converting visitors managed in Sitefinity Insight to produce the next best step (a single page recommendation) for the current visitor’s journey.
This next step is displayed using the Content recommendations widget on the pages of your Sitefinity CMS site, guiding your visitors along the optimal customer journey to increase their conversion rate.

In this article, you learn how to use the Content recommendations widget to suggest relevant content to your site visitors and guide them on a journey to increase their conversion rate.

RECOMMENDATION: Because the goal of the Content recommendations widget is to guide the site visitor among multiple touchpoints (site pages), we recommend placing it on a page template that is shared by all pages, which participate in visitor journeys. This way, the visitors are guided continuously on their journeys towards the resources which help the most in their conversion.

IMPORTANT: The Content recommendations widget does not render actual content when you Preview a page. Instead, it renders the “Lorem ipsum” placeholder text.
Also, it does not render content on published pages, unless the preconditions described in Content recommender.

Configure the Content recommendations widget

PREREQUISITES: For the Content recommendations widget to function correctly, you must successfully connect Sitefinity CMS and Sitefinity Insight and configure the content recommender. For more information, see Connect to Sitefinity Insight » Configure the content recommender.

The Content recommendations widget is located in Sitefinity’s toolbox, under Content » Marketing in the page editor.

After you place the Content recommendations widget on your page templates or page, you must configure it. Perform the following:

  1. Click Edit.
    The Recommendations screen appears.
  2. Under Conversion select one of the conversions that already exist in Sitefinity Insight.
    For more information, see Define and track conversions.
  3. Under Header, enter the text that is displayed as a label, above the recommended link.
  4. To change the appearance of the Content recommendations widget, click Advanced settings (Advanced settings), enter the name of a custom CSS class, and click Save.
  5. Click Save.

NOTE: The Content recommendations widget comes with one default template, and you cannot use custom templates.

RESULT: After you have configured the widget, it displays different information, depending on its state. When you are still in page-editing mode, you see the following:
  • When Sitefinity CMS is connected to Sitefinity Insight, a Conversion has been set, but no recommendations are sent from Sitefinity Insight yet.
    You see the Header, which you have set. In the place where the actual recommendation would appear on the live site, you see the Lorem ipsum placeholder text.
    This enables you to see how the widget would look like on the live site.
  • When there is no configured connection to Sitefinity Insight, or no sites are set for tracking, or you do not have a Premium Sitefinity Insight subscription, or the connection to Sitefinity Insight has been lost.
    The widget shows you a message indicating the issue.
