The rise of “shadow AI” is one of the clearest indicators of both the excitement and the challenges surrounding enterprise AI adoption. Shadow AI refers to employees using unapproved AI tools without the knowledge of IT or security teams to make their jobs easier. On the surface, this behavior reflects initiative but it’s really a signal of dysfunction within the organization.
