Search engine optimization custom field

Overview

Sitefinity CMS SEO automation functionality dynamically generates page URL and title when content is rendered in detailed mode. The Meta description tag inside the page HTML is taken from the Page SEO settings and stays the same for all content items displayed on the page.

You can use custom fields of type Search engine optimization to render specific Meta title or Meta description per content item.

PREREQUISITES: To work with the Search engine optimization custom field, you need to turn on SEO Properties from Advanced settings. For more information, see Turn on metadata for MVC widgets.

To add a custom field to a content item, perform the following:

  1. Perform procedure Create custom fields » Step 1 to Step 5.
  2. In the Type dropdown box, select Search engine optimization.
  3. In Meta field, select which HTML Meta tag you want to control with this custom field. For more information, see Configure Meta title and Meta description.
NOTE: You cannot modify the Name of the custom field because it is hard-coded to match the meta field you are setting up.
  4. Click Continue.
A window appears where you must configure the appearance of the custom field, such as labels and instructions.
