Outdated content settings

Overview

You can enable and configure out-of-the-box filters and notifications for outdated content and pages. Pages and certain content types can have a life span, after which they become outdated (expired) and need to be revised.

Configure outdated content settings

To enable and configure the outdated content settings, perform the following:

  1. In Sitefinity CMS backend, navigate to Administration » Settings » Basic settings.
  2. In the navigation pane on the left, click Outdated Content.
  3. To enable the filters and notifications for outdated pages, turn on the Enabled for pages setting by clicking Yes.
Note that the Outdated filter and respective notification preferences for expired pages are NOT visible on the user interface unless the feature is enabled.
  4. In Expiration period for pages input field, enter the number of days after which pages become outdated.
The default setting is 180 days.

NOTE: Optionally, you can set a custom expiration period for a single page or multiple pages in bulk. For more information, see Set a custom expiration period for selected pages

  5. To enable the filters and notifications for outdated content, turn on the Enabled for content setting by clicking Yes.
Note that the Outdated filter and respective notification preferences for expired content are NOT visible on the user interface unless the feature is enabled.
  6. Expand Content types by clicking Plus button (Select content types).
You can select individual content types or click Show all content types to expand all available content types. Confirm your multiple selection by clicking Use selected.

NOTE: The outdated content capability is available for: News, Events, Blog posts, List items, Content blocks, and all dynamic content types.

  7. In Expiration period for content input field, enter the number of days after which the selected content types become outdated.
The default setting is 240 days.
  8. In Notifications schedule, use a crontab expression syntax to schedule a recurring task for sending user notifications via the notification system.
A crontab expression is a compact way to express a recurring schedule. The default setting is 0 0 * * 1. This means that the scheduled task will run at 00:00 h each Monday and deliver the notifications for outdated pages/content.
  9. Click Save changes.
