Custom themes and templates: Add content to the widgets

After finishing the layout of the home page, you must now need to add the content controls in the layout elements. Before you configure the content, you must open the home page for editing.

Perform the following:

  1. Go to Sitefinity’s backend (http://<yoursite>/sitefinity
  2. In the main menu, click Pages
  3. Click Home page. 
    The home page opens in content editing mode and you can add the content controls in the layout elements, which you defined in Custom themes and templates: Create the layout template for the home page
  4. In the right pane, expand the Content section. 
  5. Drag and drop the Content block control in each of the layout elements in the Main section that holds the header. These are the layout elements of the first and third row. 
  6. In the title bar of each of the content blocks, click Edit, enter and format as Heading 2 titles the following: 
    • Welcome! in the first content block.

    • News in the second content block.

    • Events in the third content block.

    • Photo gallery in the fourth content block.

  7. In the title bar of the Image control, click Edit and select an image to upload. 
  8. In the Content block control, insert your welcome message as simple text. 
  9. In the box under the News header, add the News control. 
  10. In the box under the Events header, add the Events control. 
  11. In the box under the Photo gallery header, add the Image gallery control. 
  12. Click Edit on the title bar of the Image gallery control. 
  13. Click Settings tab. 
  14. Select Thumbnails + Overlay (lightbox)
  15. To close the window, click Save
  16. To save all of your work, click Publish
