Restrict templates and sections from editing

Overview

This feature allows you to lock certain areas in page templates and sections. This way, you can restrict other users from adding, moving, or removing widgets on the root level.

You can restrict editing on the following levels:

  • Lock the layout
    This restriction locks the template
  • Lock a section
    This restriction locks the section

Lock the layout

This lock mechanisms applies on template level and prevents adding widgets on the root level of the template.

A widget could be placed only in sections when a page is using the template. If a template is inherited, you cannot add widgets on the root level, widgets can only be added in the sections that are not locked.

When a page template is with locked layout, you cannot:

  • Add widgets
  • Move widgets
  • Delete widgets
  • Duplicate widgets

Lock a template

To lock the layout of a page template, perform the following:

  1. In the WYSIWYG editor, in the right of the toolbar, expand More options (More options).
  2. Click Lock layout.
  3. Publish the template.

Unlock a template

To unlock the layout of a page template, perform the following:

  1. Open the locked template for editing.
  2. In the right of the toolbar, expand More options (More options).
  3. Click Unlock layout.
  4. Publish the template.

Lock a section

In addition to locking the entire template, you can lock only a section in a template.

When you lock a section in a template, you restrict users from adding columns and widgets on the root level. In this case, users can only add widgets, if there is a nested section that is not locked. 

When a section is locked, you cannot:

  • Move the section
  • Delete the section
  • Duplicate the section
  • Add widgets in the section
  • Move widgets inside the section
  • Delete widgets from the section
  • Duplicate widgets inside the section

Lock or unlock a section

To lock the layout of a page template, perform the following:

  1. In the WYSIWYG editor, hover over the section and click its label.
  2. Expand More options (More options).
  3. Click Lock section of Unlock section, respectively.
