Move videos

Overview

You can move videos to another library, change the parent library of a video library, or change the storage of a library.
When you move an image to another library, the image is moved, which means you could change where it is stored or its path, parent library etc.
When you change the parent library of a video library you move together all of its content under the new parent library.
When you change the storage provider of a library you move all items in a different storage. This way you could move files from a local database to the cloud.

Move videos to another library

To move a video from one library to another, perform the following:

  1. Open the library where the video is located.
  2. Select the video that you want to move.
  3. In the toolbar, expand the Actions button.
  4. Click Move to another library.
  5. From the list of libraries, select the desired library and click Move.
Add info for both single and bulk move.

Change the parent library of a video library

Once created, a library can be moved together with all its content to another library by changing its parent library.

To do this, perform the following:

  1. Click the Actions link of the library that you want to move and from the dropdown, select Move to another library.
The Move to another library dialog opens.
  2. Select the new parent library and click Move.

Move videos to another storage

You can change the storage provider of a library, which moves all items in a different storage. For example, a video library kept in the database can be moved to the cloud, or a library from one cloud account can be moved to another.

To do this, perform the following:

  1. Select the library that you want to move to another storage.
  2. Expand its Actions menu and click Library properties.
  3. Under Storage provider, select a storage provider where you want to move the library.
  4. Click Save changes.

NOTE:  To use a CDN storage, you must configure the CDN storage provider. For more information, see Use CDN storage for content libraries.

The Videos page opens and Sitefinity CMS processes the library items one by one, while displaying a progress bar.
You can Stop and Resume the operation.

Transfer failure

If one or more of the videos cannot be transferred, they are skipped, and the system continues to process the rest of the videos.

In this case, the system displays a Failed indication and you have the following links:

  • Details link
When you click it, you can see a list of all videos that failed to transfer.
NOTE: For more information, you can check the Error.log file that is located in your project's ~\App_Data\Sitefinity\Logs folder.
  • Restart link
The system will attempt to transfer the videos that failed.

IMPORTANT:  During the process of moving to another storage, you are not able to edit or delete any library items.
For more information, see Storage providers for libraries.
