Combine email data in one contact field

Once you navigate to the Contact properties page of your data center, you can specify what you want the system to do if contacts use the same email address. By default, the system merges the contacts that have the same email address, independently of the data source from where the email fields are reported. Thus, the system regards them as one and the same contact.

You can, however, keep contacts as they come from data source systems. That is, despite the same email address value, keep these contacts as separate ones. In addition, once you change this setting, all contacts previously merged will be unmerged.

NOTE: Keep in mind that not all of the merges are fully reversible. After unmerging contacts,it is possible that reports show an increase in conversion rates, touchpoint hits, and so on.

To stop merging contacts and reverse previous merging of contacts:

  1. Scroll down the page to the What to do if different contacts use the same email address? section.
  2. Click Change.
  3. Select the Keep contacts as they come from data sources radio button and then click Next.
  4. Click the Stop merging contacts by email address and unmerge existing button.
