Response to “Customer and Partner Trends in Application Development”

Please Note: OpenEdge Business Process Management (BPM) has been retired. For information on OpenEdge, visit our Progress OpenEdge Application Development page.

I recently wrote a blog post about visiting with hundreds of OpenEdge customers and partners, presenting the latest OpenEdge enhancements and gathering their feedback on the current “state of the application development” world. In response, I want to take a moment to share how we are addressing the needs of our customers and partners with solutions that are available TODAY.

More Productivity - The new Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge (formerly OpenEdge Architect) in OpenEdge 11 is a single integrated development environment that will change how you develop, debug, and manage your applications. It’s slick, easy, powerful, and fast! Plus, if you are interested in BPM, you are in luck because the development environments are shared in this single tool! The demo is pretty cool, too.

More Security - Customers and partners can rest at night knowing that Progress has provided two robust solutions for addressing data security: 1) Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) - encryption for all sensitive data “at rest” with no performance penalty and NO CODE CHANGES, and 2) Multi-tenant Tables – patent-pending, physical separation of data within the database.

More Dynamic – OpenEdge BPM is “Microsoft Visio® on steroids” and a whole lot more. If you haven’t seen OpenEdge BPM in action yet, you are missing out on how to build an OpenEdge-based business process in less than 10 minutes!

More Mobility – Today we provide an open, extensible platform for supporting mobile devices, but we are continuously researching new technology and capabilities to enhance OpenEdge in the future. I would love to learn more about what you need in this area.

By no means is this the complete list of what our customers and partners are telling me they want. I hope to speak with you soon at an upcoming event or visit to learn how we can better meet YOUR needs.

Thanks and as always, please feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you think.
