Synchronized settings
By default, Sitefinity CMS synchronizes the following settings:
- Newly created sites and their dynamic modules
NOTE: If a site has not been created yet on the target server, you cannot sync items from it, unless the site is included in the synchronization items.
- Permissions
IMPORTANT: You must have the same global permissions on the source and the target servers, because items that inherit from the global permissions of the source server, after synchronization, will inherit from the global permissions of the target server.
If you break the inheritance of an item and sync this item from the source to the target server, by default, permissions will be synchronized too.
You can turn off permissions synchronization. To do this, on the source server, click Administration » Settings» Advanced » SiteSync, select Disable permissions sync checkbox, and save your changes.
By clicking Administration » Settings » Advanced » SiteSync, you can also turn on the synchronization of the following settings and configurations:
- Users and Roles
- Search indexes
- Resources
This enables the syncing of interface labels and messages. - Settings
This enables the synchronization of configuration files.
You can include and exclude configuration from the sync.
To do this, click Administration » Settings » Advanced » SiteSync » Excluded configs.
By default, if you have turned on settings sync, the following configs are excluded from the synchronization:
dataConfig
notificationsConfig
siteSyncConfig
systemConfig
securityConfig
everliveConnectorConfig
sharepointConnectorConfig
Not synchronized data

- System data
The following system data is not synchronized:
Selective sync
For all selected items types, you can use selective sync. This way, you can choose not to synchronize all new or updated items of a certain type, but only selected ones or only item from in a particular language. The system automatically resolves the dependencies between items. For example, if you have selected to sync a particular blog post only, the system automatically syncs also the parent blog.
The dependencies between synced items are as follows:
- Pages depend on their parent pages
- Page templates - on their parent templates
- Blog posts - on their parent blog
- List items - on their parent list
- Media items - on their parent library
- Libraries - on their parent libraries
- Taxa – on their parent taxa and taxonomy
- Hierarchical dynamic items - on their parents
- Pages depend on their page templates
- Dynamic items - on their module’s structure
- Dynamic items with media fields – on the corresponding media item
- Dynamic module – on its widgets’ templates
- Sites – on their dynamic modules
NOTE: Pages and Page Templates require the widget templates to be manually selected for sync.
