Sitefinity Desktop Experience: Upload and edit Images, Documents, and Videos
You can use Sitefinity CMS Desktop Application to view, upload or edit the properties of images, documents, and videos. You can also edit documents (.doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .xlsx) in a Word-based and Excel-based environment, directly in Sitefinity CMS Desktop Application.
PREREQUISITES: To work with files and libraries, you must be online.
To manage images, documents, and videos, in the upper-left corner, click MENU and then one of the following:
- Images
- Documents & Files
- Videos
All files are organized in libraries.
Creating libraries
All created libraries appear together with a summary of their content.
A library can contain files or other libraries.
- To create a new library, click Create a Library button and enter its name.
- To open a library, double-click it.
A list of files and libraries appear. - To delete a library, open its context menu and click Delete.
- To rename a library, open its content menu and click Rename.

- From the context menu you can also cut, copy, and paste a library in another library.
Uploading files
To upload files, perform the following:
- Open the library where you want to upload files.
- Click Upload Documents button.
- Browse your computer to find the file and click Open.
You can upload multiple files. - To edit the properties of a file, such as title, tags, or categories, double-click it.
If you have opened an image, you can view and edit it in an image editor. If you have opened a document or spreadsheet, you can edit it directly in Sitefinity CMS Desktop Application in a Word or Excel-based editor.
For each file you can edit the following properties:
- Title
- Author
- Description
- Sitefinity CMS Desktop Experience: Categorize or tag an item
- Other details
- URL
From the context menu of a file, you can also rename, download, delete, cut, copy, or paste it elsewhere.
To select all items in a library, use CTRL+A. In addition, for each version of the file, you can add version-specific notes or comments.
- To replace a file with another file, click the Choose file… button.
Browse and select the file with which you want to replace the current file.
You can always go back to the initial image file. To do so, under Replace file, click the
icon next to the new file.
- When finished editing a file, perform one of the following:
- If you do not have internet access or you do not want to publish the item yet, you can save it as draft by clicking Save Draft button in the upper-right corner of the page.
- If you want to publish the item, click Publish button in the upper-right corner of the screen.
