Last week, we highlighted a number of inspiring stories showcasing how Progress customers are using technology for good—supporting communities, advancing sustainability and improving lives around the world. This week, we’re continuing that story with two more examples that demonstrate how purpose-driven innovation can create meaningful, measurable impact.
1. Building Smarter, More Connected Cities: Forum Virium Helsinki
Forum Virium Helsinki is at the forefront of developing smarter, more sustainable urban environments in the city of Helsinki. Working at the intersection of public and private sectors, the organization brings together citizens, businesses and partners to co-create solutions that improve city life.
To support its growing portfolio of initiatives, Forum Virium Helsinki turned to the Progress® Podio® platform to centralize project management, reporting and internal operations. By consolidating these functions into a single, flexible platform, the team reduced administrative overhead while also improving visibility and transparency across projects.
With more efficient collaboration and streamlined data management, Forum Virium Helsinki is accelerating innovation in key areas such as smart mobility, sustainability and citizen engagement, helping shape the future of urban living.
2. Scaling Critical Services for Communities in Need: Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels San Francisco plays a vital role in supporting food-insecure seniors, delivering millions of meals each year to individuals who rely on consistent access to nutritious food and social connection. As demand grew, the organization needed to modernize its supply chain to meet ambitious goals, including the ability to serve up to 30,000 meals in a single day.
With Kechie, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution built on the Progress® OpenEdge® platform by long-time Progress partner MyOfficeApps, Meals on Wheels streamlined warehouse and inventory management, improved real-time visibility into food supply and reduced waste by better tracking costs and expiration dates. The system also enabled seamless integration with food distributors and provided the flexibility needed to adapt to changing demand.
By strengthening its operational backbone, Meals on Wheels San Francisco can better support growing demand, helping thousands of seniors continue to receive the meals they depend on every day.
3. Improving Public Access and Transparency in Transit: Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA)
Serving more than 10 million residents across Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) plays a vital role in managing and funding the region’s diverse public transportation systems. To better serve both internal stakeholders and the public, Metro sought to improve access to board materials and legal records, which were previously difficult to locate due to inconsistent terminology across systems.
By implementing Progress® Semaphore® as part of the Progress® Data Platform through Progress® Data Cloud ℠, LACMTA unified its content using advanced ontology modeling and auto-tagging capabilities. This transformation enabled more efficient search and retrieval of information, streamlined responses to legal requests and ensured compliance with Federal Transit Authority (FTA) accessibility requirements, ultimately supporting greater transparency and more equitable access to critical public information.
4. Empowering Individuals and Families Through Better Care: Microboards Australia
Microboards Australia, a nonprofit supporting people with disabilities to live more independent and self-directed lives, transformed its care coordination and reporting processes using the Podio platform.
Previously reliant on time-consuming verbal handovers and inconsistent manual notes, the organization implemented customized digital workflows to capture shift reports, track health, finances and life goals and centralize information in one system. This shift not only improved accuracy, efficiency and onboarding, but also enhanced the dignity and safety of the individuals supported by reducing intrusive reporting practices.
With better real-time visibility into care data, Microboards Australia has been able to scale its support to more families and, in some cases, identify critical health issues early, enabling timely intervention and improving outcomes.
Continuing the Momentum
These stories reinforce a simple idea: technology can be a catalyst for meaningful change when applied with purpose. As we continue to spotlight Progress customers, we’re inspired by the many ways innovation is helping organizations make a difference.
