Spontaneous installation & design with Sitefinity 4.0 RC

November 20, 2010 Digital Experience

I’ve created hundreds of new Sitefinity 4.0 projects during the past several months.  We’ve had 4 public pre-releases of Sitefinity 4.0 and I frequently download and experiment with our internal builds.  Because I’ve done this so many times, I’ve started to take for granted some of these first steps into 4.0.  However, as I look over some of the forum posts I see people who are still new to these foundational 4.0 concepts.

In order to help, I spontaneously decided to record a video showing my typical setup process with a new Sitefinity 4.0 web site:

This video examines the following topics:

  • Installation
  • Project creation
  • Template creation, in Sitefinity
  • Template creation, based on ASP.NET Master Pages
  • Content creation
  • Theme creation
  • Styling & layouts
  • Widget template customization

This recording was fairly spontaneous.  I didn’t have a script or much of a plan.  I had a vague idea of what I wanted to show and just started recording.  If the video seems a bit undirected, that’s why.  I’m sorry to anyone who was looking for a more polished presentation.

The templates shown & referenced in this project can be download here.

Hopefully this will help some of you who are exploring the Sitefinity 4.0 RC over the weekend.
