Ecommerce functionally is #2 on the list of Most Requested Sitefinity 4.0 Features.
I’m working behind the scenes to reply to this suggestion. Telerik’s long-term eCommerce plans aren’t 100% solidified and it’s taking me a bit of time to compose the official response.
However, it’s very unlikely that Sitefinity will have eCommerce functionality with the 4.0 release. eCommerce is a HUGE area (just as big a content management) with tons and tons of details (payment providers, inventory management, order fulfillment, shipping rates, tax calculators, coupons, etc, etc, etc). Sidetracking Sitefinity 4.0’s development to address this single area would negatively impact our release schedule.
Thankfully there is a Sitefinity partner (Mallsoft) that is addressing eCommerce today with their InstaOrder eCommerce Solution. This eCommerce solution has been designed to integrate seamlessly into Sitefinity.
