Administration: Configure SMTP settings

Use this procedure to configure email setting – SMTP stand for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. The settings are needed every time the system must send email. For example, to notify an approver that an item is waiting for approval.

SMTP settings are used by all functionality introduced before Sitefinity CMS 5.0. For all features that use email setting and are developed after Sitefinity CMS 5.0, you must also configure the Default notification profile. For more information, see Administration: Configure notification profiles.

NOTE: These settings are not valid for the Email Campaigns module. To configure the email setting that the module uses, see Administration: Email campaigns.

1. In the main menu, click Administration » Settings.
   The Basic Settings page appears.
2. Click Advanced link.
   The Settings page appears.
3. Click System » SMTP (Email Settings).
4. Configure the following properties:

   Host	Enter the name or IP address of the host used for SMTP transactions.
   Port	Enter the port used for SMTP transactions
   UserName	Enter the user name of the account that you use to connect to the SMTP server
   Password	Enter the password of the account that you use to connect to the SMTP server
   Domain	Enter the domain or computer name that verifies the credentials, entered above.
   DeliveryMethod	Specify how outgoing email messages will be handled. Enter one of the following: Network Email is sent through the network to an SMTP server. SpecifiedPickupDirectory Email is copied to the directory specified in PickupDirectoryLocation below for delivery by an external application. PickupDirectoryFromIis Email is copied to the pickup directory used by a local Internet Information Services (IIS) for delivery.
   EnableSSL	Select if you want Sitefinity CMS to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt the connection.
   Timeout	Enter the amount of time in milliseconds after which a synchronous mail sending times out.
   PickupDirectoryLocation	Enter the folder where applications save mail messages to be processed by the local SMTP server.
   DefaultSenderEmailAddress	Enter the email address of the sender. This is the address, which the email will be send from – what appears in the From: field.

5. When you are finished, click Save changes.
