Edit content in full-screen with Sitefinity CMS

September 22, 2011 Digital Experience

I’m hatching a personal project in my spare time that is built (of course) on Sitefinity.  As part of this project, I’ve been spending a lot of time writing in Sitefinity’s Rich Text editor.  A feature I’ve started to utilize regularly is full-screen mode.

Handy Tip:  You can also toggle into & out of full-screen mode by pressing F11.

Automatic word-wrapping for wide-screen displays

This isn’t the first time I’ve done this in a CMS.  I like to use full-screen edit mode for the same reason I like full-screen edit mode in MS Word or Google Docs.  It creates a distraction free writing environment and lets me see more of my document.

However, my challenge with full-screen edit mode has always been the lack of word-wrapping.  This results in paragraphs turning into a single long line of text on my wide-screen display.

This becomes obnoxious to work with.  Text should not extend more than 65-70 characters.  After this, it becomes difficult for the eye to locate the next line.

Thankfully, Sitefinity provides styling (by default) to avoid this challenge while working in full-screen edit mode.

Final words….

I’m a big fan of this.  Sitefinity’s Rich Text editor is also relatively forgiving about pasted content and produces nice HTML.  As I get deeper into writing  I tend to forget about Sitefinity entirely.  This is ultimately what we’re aiming for.  (Now we just need auto-save. :)

If you haven’t already, experiment with Sitefinity’s full-screen edit mode and tell us what you think.
