From Big Data and Bulk Load, to Cloud computing, to Hadoop being described as the "Swiss army knife of the 21st century" as they picked up the "innovator of the year" at Media Guardian Innovation Awards, a lot has happened in 2011. Much of what happened in 2011 leaves us very excited about the prospects for 2012! Here are a few things we think will be important in the upcoming year, some of which you may have seen in Gartner's "Top Predictions":
1. Big Data - It's Not the Size, It's What It Means - 2012 will see more talk about big data, but more importantly, much more action.
2. The Cloud Rises - the elasticity of the cloud will make it too hard for organizations to resist storing their data in the cloud.
3. Freeware vs. ODBC - More investment in data connectivity as companies look for the most dependable data access.
