Industry Vice President, Banking & Capital Markets

Dr. Richard Bentley has been with Progress Software since 2005, having spent the previous five years at complex event processing vendor Apama (acquired by Progress in 2005), where he ran both Product Management and Professional Services. He has been instrumental in the development of the capital markets and banking businesses at Progress, building the Pre-Sales, Professional Services and Industry Solutions teams. Bentley currently oversees all banking and capital markets-related activities, and is a respected speaker and commentator in both industries.

Prior to joining Apama, Bentley spent three years as project manager with Xerox's European Research Laboratory. At Xerox, Bentley was responsible for conducting and managing research and leading technology transfer to Xerox Business Divisions. As an experienced practitioner and assessor for the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) of software development, Bentley also led the Lab's Software Process Improvement activities. Before that, Bentley spent three years at the Fraunhofer Institut in Bonn, Germany, where he led the development of an innovative Web-based groupware tool. The system won the European Software Innovation Prize in 1996 and is still in widespread use, with more than 100,000 users world-wide.

Bentley holds a PhD in Computer Science from Lancaster University, UK.
