Deputy Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

As Deputy CTO, Dr Giles Nelson is responsible for product and corporate development at Progress Software.  This encompasses setting the vision for the product through organic growth and shaping the company’s acquisition strategy. A significant part of his role is evangelizing this activity to Progress customers, partners and key industry watchers.  

Previously, as senior director of strategy he was responsible for strategy development of the Progress Complex Event Processing (CEP) product, Apama.  He maintained and expanded the company’s market leading position in this space.  In that role, he developed global business strategies and managed technology innovation into new markets, as well as bolstering market share in the Capital Markets sector.  

Prior to joining Progress, he was co-founder of Apama, the pioneering event processing software vendor acquired by Progress in April 2005, where he co-invented the core patented technology.

Nelson is a regular speaker at leading technology and Capital Markets industry events and is published and quoted widely in the media. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge.
