Work with Sitefinity CMS Project Manager

The project manager has the following functions in the toolbar:

  • Create a New Project
    You use this function to create a new project and initially install a license.
    For more information, see Create a project.
  • Import a Project
    Use this function to add an existing project to the project manager.
    Perform the following:
    1. Select between:
      • Add project .xml file
        Adding the Projects.xml file, you can add all projects listed in this file.
      • Open from the project folder
    2. Click Select… and browse to find the Projects.xml file or the root folder of the project you want to import.
    3. Click Done.

By clicking on Actions, you can perform the following:

  • Browse
    Use this function to browse a project in a browser.

    NOTE: This function is also available in the context menu of each project.

    While browsing the project, you can also use the inline editing function to change your website without logging to the backend.

  • Go to Administration
    Use this function to log to the administration of the website. For more information about what you can do in the backend, see Sitefinity CMS overview.

    The first time you create a project you must go through the initial configuration. For more information, see Configure and start a project.

    NOTE: This function is also available in the context menu of each project.

  • Explore
    The system displays the files of the project.
  • Upgrade
    Use this function to upgrade Sitefinity CMS projects, created with a previous, to the latest Sitefinity CMS version.

    NOTE: This function is also available in the context menu of each project.

    NOTE: In case you want to enable Roslyn compiler for your upgraded project, you need to manually install the Roslyn package. For more information, see Optimize website startup.

  • Edit in Visual Studio
    From the project manager you can open a project for editing directly in Microsoft Visual Studio.

    PREREQUISITES: You must have Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 or above installed on your computer.

    Open the project in Visual Studio by selecting a project in the project manager and click Edit in Visual Studio button in the toolbar.
    The project opens in Visual Studio. If you have not installed a license, the Licenses page appears.

    NOTE: This function is also available in the context menu of each project.

  • Show License Info
    The system displays the version and other details about the license you have installed for the project.

  • Show Server Info
    The system displays information about the Microsoft IIS Express server, which is Sitefinity integrated web server.
  • Remove
    Use this button to delete one or more projects.
    1. Select one or more project you want to delete and click Remove in the toolbar.
      A dialog box appears.
    2. To delete the files of the project(s), select Delete the project(s) files checkbox.
      If you do not select the checkbox, the projects are removed only from the list of projects in the project manager.
    3. To confirm the deletion, click Yes.
