Who You Are:

  • Strong build engineer with experience building native libraries from source using make/gcc/linker . Knowledge of other build systems is a bonus.
  • Ability to proactively and independently troubleshoot build failures.
  • Experienced porting software across Linux system variants.
  • Knowledgeable in bash; Powershell familiarity is an added bonus.
  • Good understanding of static and dynamic linking mechanics.
  • Familiar with Linux system internals.
  • Familiar with Windows system internals, or have an interest in learning.
  • Comfortable with cloud based platforms as well as tools such as Terraform and Docker.
  • Experience with service discovery and building distributed application architectures a plus
  • Have the equivalent of 7 years or more of experience in the systems engineering or software engineering fields.
  • Have the equivalent of 4 years or more of experience leading or managing other developers
  • An independent self-starter with a willingness to learn new things through experimentation and research

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage a small team of developers responsible for the Chef Habitat Core Plans project
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders of the project including product management, UX, other teams as well as customers
  • Be responsible for the build and regular release of updates to Chef Habitat packages
  • Work closely with the Chef Habitat development team to develop improvements to how our customers use and benefit from the packages
  • Teach, mentor, and learn from your team of world class engineers 
  • Take on responsibility for and iteratively drive to the successful implementation an area of the product
  • Support improvements to our core product, tooling, and development processes
  • Work on issues and improvements in our tools critical to the success of Chef’s customers and the broader Chef community
