As companies move to the cloud, adoption of a software as a service (SaaS) subscription-based model is becoming increasingly widespread. Organizations of every size are embracing this cost-efficient “software on demand” approach, which reduces IT support and licensing costs while allowing greater business agility. SaaS has become a common delivery model for an increasingly wide range of business applications, covering the gamut from office and messaging to payroll processing to customer relationship management (CRM). Factors driving SaaS adoption range from lower total cost of ownership to limited capital expense budget to easier and faster solution deployment.
What is lesser known, however, are the concerns and challenges of those companies providing SaaS applications. In October 2015, we invited software companies of every size and type from around the world to participate in the 2015 SaaS Application Business Impact Survey. The goal was to understand their biggest challenges in delivering SaaS solutions, what challenges they and their customers are facing, and their future strategy for handling increasing requirements for integration and customer expansion. We received feedback from business analysts, product managers, developers, database administrators, IT architects and others that strongly suggests application integration with cloud-based and on-premise apps is a key concern.
