Progress SonicMQ tops IBM WebSphere MQ, says Jahming

Johannesburg03 Apr 2002 — Jahming Technologies, an international performance and testing company, has announced that SonicMQ messaging software outperformed IBM WebSphere MQ (formerly MQSeries) in recent independent benchmark tests. Sonic Software products are distributed locally by Progress Software SA.

The benchmark tests revealed that SonicMQ 4.0 is consistently faster in 40 different business messaging test configurations, with throughputs that are 100% to 1 500% faster than those of WebSphere MQ 5.2.

"This benchmarking report clearly demonstrates that SonicMQ 4.0 delivers information in whatever volume a business needs, faster and more reliably than the competition," says Rick Parry, MD of Progress Software SA. "Users of MQSeries stand to benefit from the performance enhancements offered by SonicMQ."

SonicMQ produced throughputs for point-to-point message tests of up to four times faster than WebSphere MQ, and where many messages were sent, it was between 2.6 to 4.4 times faster. In durable publish or subscribe testing, Sonic outpaced IBM by a two-to-one margin for light loads, widening to six times the throughput under medium load testing. For high volume activity - 1 000 connections and 500 topics - SonicMQ broker easily handled the throughput, according to the report, while WebSphere MQ broker failed to complete the test. In the non-durable publish or subscribe testing SonicMQ broker achieved throughputs 16 times faster than those of the WebSphere MQ broker.

Progress reports that revenues from Sonic MQ have risen 300% over the past year, and plans are in place to ramp up sales of its other messaging products.

"Although different Java Message Service providers conform to and implement the JMS API specification, the performance achievable with their products varies significantly under many test configurations," says Parry. "This competitive testing project illustrates a variety of high-volume messaging business scenarios and the widely differing message rates produced by different providers."
