Progress® DataXtend™ Semantic Integrator (SI)
Progress® DataXtend™ SI solves the problem of validating data exchanges between systems by focusing on the business integrity of data—not just ensuring that the format of that data is correct, but ensuring that data is valid based on business rules for the users and applications that require the data.
DataXtend SI technology automates and manages operations that are central to ensuring data quality:
- Transformations - schema mapping, such as converting a product order to the telecommunications Shared Information/Data (SID) model.
- Aggregation - merging and reconciling disparate data, such as two different birth dates associated with one customer.
- Validation - ensuring data consistency, such as checking that the ship date precedes the received date
- Business Rules - enforcing business processes, such as denying shipments to delinquent accounts.
Using DataXtend SI's Exchange Modeling™ technology, you rapidly construct and centrally manage the rules and operations you need to validate and reconcile your data. You can reuse these rules to check and aggregate data across multiple data sources and destinations in your integrated applications.

Progress® DataXtend™ SI Designer is a complete design environment for creating and managing models, rules, and data services. DataXtend SI Designer imports existing schemas for data sources, data services, and the common model, where they are enriched with transformation and validation rules using DataXtend SI's comprehensive set of visual tools. DataXtend SI also exports models as XSDs and WSDL files to create new data services.

Progress® DataXtend™ SI Engine is the runtime component of the DataXtend SI architecture. At runtime, data is dynamically converted and validated before it is submitted to backend systems. All data services use standard interfaces for incorporation into any business process or target application. The output of DataXtend SI Engine is Java, running as stateless services with optimal performance.
