How is OpenEdge 10.1C Different
Progress OpenEdge® Release 10.1C builds on the innovations introduced with previous OpenEdge 10 releases. OpenEdge 10 is about providing our customers with the best platform for creating modern, distributed, business applications which by definition have an n-tier architecture, include integration capabilities, and are service-oriented.
The vision for OpenEdge10 has been built over a series of releases and focuses on facilitating the flexibility promised by Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). The OpenEdge 10.1C release builds off and complements 10.1A and 10.1B by making the enterprise even more productive — with an emphasis on providing highly-productive tools to develop business logic and simplify integration.
To develop business logic, 10.1C includes new features like structured error handling which provides a simpler and more consistent method for handling errors. To simplify and speed integration, 10.1C offers Web Services Provider support for Progress Data Sets (ProDataSets) and a next generation Sonic ESB adapter.
Web Services Provider support for ProDataSets allows a single set of back-end business logic that any AppServer client can access. The next generation OpenEdge Sonic Enterprise ESB adapter uses a native ABL invocation methodology that makes Open API calls at runtime to execute procedures on the Application Server, rather than treating ABL procedures as Web services.
OpenEdge 10.1C also offers support for Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). IPv6 is designed to replace the current IPv4 by providing a much larger address space and thus, allowing greater flexibility in assigning addresses. By supporting IPv6, 10.1C addresses a critical mandate from the US Department of Defense.
