G&U Districenters

G&U Districenters is Singapore's first fully automated chemical warehouse and premier provider of logistics services for the chemical industry in South East Asia.

Problem

Lack of automated and streamlined processes such as data input and inventory management left G&U Districenters vulnerable to critical errors. Of key concern are the safety implications of placing toxic, flammable and corrosive materials in hazardous areas or in close proximity to another hazardous substance, posing risks of fire and to employees' health.

Solution

G&U Districenters chose Plus, a warehouse management solution developed by Progress partner Boon Software.

Results

  • Increased efficiency by about 300%: The The entire process - from shipment arrival to advising the client of arrival and updating inventory - has been reduced from 5-6 working days to just 1-2 working days.
  • Automated functions increase productivity: To achieve automatic stock updates the crane operations were integrated into existing software. This has improved productivity through substantial time savings and has reduced the margin for human error.
  • Improved real time reporting: The use of Radio Frequency scanning of the barcodes on the pallets enables real time updates in the AS/RS system about incoming and outgoing goods and stock status, including availability, sell-by-dates and whereabouts, which improve operating efficiency.
  • Increased space utilization: The optimal usage of warehouse space means that stock turns are faster and more efficient. This results in shorter dispatch times and selling cycles, ultimately containing costs and maximizing revenue opportunities.
  • Paperless environment: A paperless environment is created, taking away the potential mistakes that come with excess paperwork. Time savings are significant as are cost reductions in the amount of paper utilized
  • Improved customer service: Knowing exact up-to-the minute levels and locations of inventory helps to track stock count errors so clients and suppliers can be alerted of missing cargo and traced immediately.
  • Improved stock count accuracies: Physical counting can be done faster and more efficiently, saving labor and time costs, while loss inventory accounts and other errors are decreased.
