What's New in OpenEdge 10?
Attendees learned details on how the latest release of OpenEdge 10 continues to deliver the products, technology and services that you depend upon. Many insightful exchanges occurred as attendees filled us in on what they are doing while Progress experts showed how OpenEdge 10 can help with their particular situation.
Attendees on an older release of Progress got the chance to learn about all of the resources available to help them make a smooth transition to OpenEdge 10. And, those on an older release of the platform learned all about the latest advances delivered as part of OpenEdge 10.1B as well as more reasons to upgrade.
Advanced User Interface Development Tools
Attendees got a sneak peek at new development tools for building modern user interfaces with the latest Windows look and feel. Demos enabled viewers to see how, from within OpenEdge Architect, you can drag and drop controls on the drawing canvas and code the interface logic entirely in ABL. Everything you need is accessed from within our toolset—no need to learn other interface technologies to build the most modern clients for your applications.
Developing with OpenEdge
Progress continually enhances OpenEdge to deliver higher and higher levels of developer productivity. OpenEdge Architect includes tools allowing you to implement new interfaces, access new data sources, integrate with any other application and deploy to new hardware (devices and platforms) with far less effort, time and cost than other development environments. Recent enhancements include support for object-oriented development and a development environment tailored to developing OERA-informed applications with a business-logic centered approach.
Running and Managing Your Applications on OpenEdge
OpenEdge provides a reliable, scalable, cost-effective platform on which you can run and manage key business applications. It has everything you need: our RDBMS and DataServers (if you want to access another vendor's DB); an application server; and, replication and management to make sure your business functions are always available. Attendees learned more about our most recent enhancements including the increase in the amount of data our database can manage.
OpenEdge for Integration and SOA
Gone are the days when an application can be an island, separated from the rest of the IT infrastructure. In order to play in an increasingly connected world, your applications, written in ABL, must not only be an integral part of the IT infrastructure in which they live, but must also connect to the infrastructure of external parties, such as trading partners. Progress combines the power of OpenEdge with Web services, messaging technologies and an enterprise service bus to help you create applications that are first-rate in an integrated IT infrastructure.
Integration specialists were on hand allowing attendees to see how their OpenEdge environment can implement SOA principles—enabling them to start building the next generation of integration-ready business applications today.
OpenEdge Principles
Attendees learned why OpenEdge Principles is The #1 PSDN Forum. And, discovered new material recently made available—new class-based examples and the new interactive tutorial Architecture Made Simple. OpenEdge Principles delivers architecture and solution guidance via samples that are aligned with future product strategy—all posted on PSDN.
Progress EasyAsk
At this station you could explore how natural language query can enhance your business and get a chance to ask questions of the experts. Attendees learned about EasyAsk for the Enterprise and EasyAsk for Commerce. EasyAsk for the Enterprise offers embedded natural language question/answer technology and reporting. It allows non-technical users to easily query information within business applications and enterprise data stores, schedule the execution of reports and even cause email notifications to be sent whenever certain conditions appear in the database.
EasyAsk for Commerce leverages the industry's most advanced and comprehensive search and navigation platform to deliver an unparalleled user experience to online shoppers. EasyAsk's linguistic processing, advanced merchandising, content promotion, and analytics capabilities increase conversion rates, average order size, and customer satisfaction.

DataXtend Semantic Integrator's unique metadata-driven approach manages both the format and business integrity of data through re-use and automation and by reducing the cost and complexity of integrating systems. Attendees learned how this newest addition to the Progress DataXtend product family can enable systems to be integrated quickly and easily, ensuring the agility and reuse made possible by emerging SOAs.
