VIF: Adapting to the Cloud with Progress OpenEdge
VIF specializes in ERP systems for agri-food industry clients. Since 1988, VIF has been a Progress Software partner, basing its offerings on the OpenEdge platform. As the company expanded internationally, VIF found the Progress relationship to be useful in adapting to new markets. In Brazil, for example, VIF found that it had to rethink many fundamental aspects of its approach to customer engagement. While VIF’s French clients insisted on on-premise installs due to the intense uptime requirements of food manufacturing, in Brazil, the opposite was true. Progress was able to introduce VIF to the Brazilian approach to ERP, which emphasizes cloud-based computing.VIF has been able to adapt its OpenEdge-based ERP solution successfully to the cloud and won business from new clients in the Brazilian market.

B&L Information Systems: Casting the Die for ERP Leadership
B&L Information Systems is the leader in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for die casters, foundries and other metalwork industry clients. The company's Odyssey software, built on Progress OpenEdge, enables customers to oversee operations from quote-to-cash. Michigan-based B&L has been in business for over thirty years, the last twelve as a Progress Partner. According to Matt Gacek, VP of Business Development, OpenEdge helps B&L develop software more quickly than has been possible with other databases. Then, when B&L decided to introduce a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) version of its ERP solution, the Progress Empowerment Program facilitated a SaaS release in just three months. It's been a huge success. In its first year, cloud-based Odyssey led to B&L closing 900% more new business than in the previous year. SaaS now represents 25% of total company revenue -- the fastest growth of a new product B&L has ever seen. Gacek says that he has grown to appreciate Progress through the Empowerment Program, noting that Progress has taught B&L a lot about marketing and sales, who to look for, and how to position the company for new revenue. "Their recommendations have been spot on," Gacek said.

As OpenEdge evolved to SaaS capabilities, Bluebird adapted its rental solutions to browser-based versions. Since 2002, this aspect of Bluebird's business has grown exponentially.
