Progress Software Powers CERN to IDG InfoWorld 100 Recognition
The World's Largest Physics Laboratory And Particle Accelerator Recognized As One Of The 100 Most Innovative IT Solutions For 2007 For High-Throughput, Distributed Messaging System
BEDFORD, Mass., (BUSINESS WIRE)
26-Nov-2007
Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a global supplier of application infrastructure software used to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, today announced that its customer, CERN was named in IDG's InfoWorld 100 best projects of 2007 list.
CERN, the world's largest particle physics laboratory and home to the most powerful particle accelerator, deployed Progress(R) SonicMQ(R) for mission-critical message delivery. To ensure continuous availability of more than 100 technical systems, CERN created the Technical Infrastructure Monitoring system, with SonicMQ forming its communications backbone. The asynchronous messaging system facilitates CERN's ability to collect, evaluate, store, and distribute data from approximately 25,000 individual measuring points, which combine to generate more than 1.3 million data points per day.
IDG's InfoWorld 100 most innovative corporate IT solutions annual awards honor IT projects that demonstrate the most creative use of cutting-edge technologies to further their business goals. All projects had to stretch beyond the typical, off-the-shelf solution, and must have used multiple technologies in innovative ways to serve well-defined business goals. Winners were formally announced on November 12th at InfoWorld.com.
"Whether ushering legacy systems into the agile era or revolutionizing how their companies leverage technology to meaningful ends, this year's winners are both inspiration and proof that striking a new path in IT can reap deep organizational rewards," said InfoWorld Senior Editor Jason Snyder.
SonicMQ is the industry's most robust and resilient standards-based enterprise messaging systems, delivering unmatched service availability, high performance, exceptional management capabilities and unsurpassed scalability for vast and sophisticated enterprise deployments. SonicMQ also provides the communications infrastructure for the market-leading Progress Sonic ESB.
"CERN is building the world's largest particle accelerator and they selected the Progress SonicMQ as a messaging backbone to provide them with extremely low latency message delivery with volumes of more than three million messages per day -- all with zero message loss," said Joseph Alsop, founder and chief executive officer, Progress Software. "To be included in IDG's InfoWorld 100 is recognition of the success of the project and their success is proof that organizations with complex messaging needs, like CERN, can depend on the standards-based, reliable enterprise messaging of the SonicMQ platform to meet the demands of business."
