Progress Software Introduces DataXtend Semantic Integrator
Progress Extends Leadership in SOA Market with a Model-Driven Approach to Data Integration and Transformation
BEDFORD, Mass. (BUSINESS WIRE)
04-Dec-2006
Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a provider of leading application infrastructure software to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, today announced the Progress(R) DataXtend(TM) Semantic Integrator (SI) product which addresses the semantic data integration challenges in service-oriented architecture (SOA). The DataXtend SI product uses industry standard models to manage the validation and transformation of data so it can be shared between applications that require different information or formats. By providing an automated, model-based approach to data integration, the DataXtend SI product helps customers reduce the cost, time and complexity of integrating systems.
While conventional data integration approaches simply manage format integrity, the DataXtend SI product delivers breakthrough technology that addresses the far costlier challenge of managing the semantic consistency of data shared between applications across distributed enterprises. This newest addition to the Progress DataXtend family of products enables systems to be integrated quickly and easily, ensuring the agility and reuse made possible by emerging SOAs.
"Progress' semantic data integration tools speed up implementation and maintenance of integrated solutions in an SOA, and significantly reduce the effort required to integrate systems for telecommunications providers," said John Wilmes, chief technology officer, Ceon, the leading provider of proven product management and fulfillment software for the telecommunications market. "The greater the integration our product lifecycle management software solution, Product Control Center, has with other systems, the more value it delivers. We see the DataXtend technology as one of the most promising capabilities available to enable the integration of systems across an enterprise's operational silos."
Based on technology obtained in the June 2006 acquisition of Pantero, the DataXtend SI product offers comprehensive models and mapping for a wide range of integration scenarios. Key components of the DataXtend SI modeling architecture include the DataXtend SI Designer, a complete design environment for creating and managing models, rules and data services and the DataXtend SI Engine which enables data to be transformed and validated before it is submitted to backend systems.
"Market forces such as M&A and technology convergence are driving companies to integrate applications, consolidate customer information and move away from legacy systems and information silos," said Carl Olofson, IDC. "One of the many industries where this is becoming prevalent is the telecom industry, as companies seek to accelerate the launch and adoption of new service offerings and require technology that ensures the accuracy and integrity of data."
This week Progress will be recognized jointly with IBM as the winner of the telecommunication industry's World Billing Award 2006 in the category of "Best Systems Integration Project." The award, to be presented on December 6 at the Next Generation Billing, Charging, and Customer Management conference in Munich, recognizes the unique capability of the DataXtend product to support the TM Forum's Shared Information/Data (SID) model to reduce integration complexity and speed time-to-market for the delivery of new IP-based services for communications service providers.
"With the introduction of the DataXtend SI product, our customers have the necessary tools to build and deliver the next generation data services that will be required for SOAs," said Ken Rugg, vice president, Data Services products, Progress Software. "The DataXtend SI product helps users achieve advantages in productivity, governance and performance by providing a scalable solution to reconcile and manage the business integrity of data among shared applications."
