Sonic Software, an operating unit of Progress Software Corporation (Nasdaq: PRGS), today announced that Great American Insurance Group has selected Sonic and Actional(R) products for its strategic service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure software. Sonic ESB(R) 7.0 provides Great American Insurance with an enterprise service bus (ESB) as its SOA-based integration backbone, connecting and orchestrating service components across Great American Insurance's technology environment. Actional 6.0 provides advanced SOA and web services management, runtime governance and business process visibility (BPV), allowing Great American Insurance to view, manage and enforce both business and IT policy from a business process-centric perspective.

Great American Insurance will deploy the Sonic and Actional products to realize its SOA strategy, enabling Great American Insurance to more effectively connect, reuse, monitor and manage common business services across its various insurance products. As a result, Great American can lower IT costs and more quickly respond to the needs of the business.

"In our business, the ability to respond quickly and cost effectively to new market opportunities is very important. An SOA implementation built on Sonic and Actional will allow us to be more competitive," said Piyush Singh, senior vice president and chief information officer of Great American Insurance Group. "As an enterprise with a wide range of infrastructure, the fact that the Sonic and Actional products are not tied down to any one application platform or technology is critical for us. In our technical evaluation, Sonic and Actional proved to be the most reliable and scalable."

"Great American Insurance is a powerful demonstration of the value that Sonic and Actional deliver," said Dan Foody, CTO of Sonic and Actional products at Progress Software. "Great American's assessment proved that Sonic delivered both superior SOA software infrastructure products and a set of best practices and methodology developed over years of collective in-field SOA engagement experience.
