As one of the world's largest container transport and logistics companies, Hong Kong-based OOCL relies on producing accurate and timely electronic-customs documentation as a vital component to its worldwide operations. Each container that ships needs the correct customs documents as it arrives in port for the containers to be unloaded. The overall performance of the inbound and outbound customs system depends on having reliable, high-performance connectivity when accessing the Sybase database to generate the necessary information for electronic-customs documentation. This 24x7 operation requires OOCL to create thousands of documents to submit to various customs and terminal ports around the world.
OOCL needed high-performance data connectivity to access its Sybase ASE database server in Windows 2003. With stability, reliability and performance as the driving technical considerations, OOCL decided to purchase DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET for its Australian customs manifesting. OOCL tested both the Sybase and the DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET providers, resulting in a 50 percent performance gain using the software from DataDirect.
